All of the aspiring engineering candidates in our nation know that the JEE Main 2020 registration has started from the 2nd of September, 2019 and the exam is going to be held in the month of January 2020. It is obvious that everyone has started their preparations a long time ago as you are about to experience one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in your life which is the JEE Main 2020. The candidates who are hopeful of expecting well in the JEE Main 2020 results have to set a target score in the examination to at least clear the JEE Main cut-off examination which will be declared in the last week of January. The JEE Main cut off will be released by the NTA, which is the examination conducting authority, in online mode.
This article would help you, the aspiring candidates of the JEE Main 2020 to determine the minimum mark which would help you to clear the JEE Main cut off. There are mainly two types of qualifying cut off marks for the candidates. One of the cut off determines the qualification of the students for the JEE advanced, which is the qualifying examination to enter the prestigious IIT’s, NIT. The other qualifying marks is for the admission to other engineering colleges under the JEE Main 2020 after the counseling. The cut-off of the candidates will be available along with the JEE Main 2020 result. The candidates have to acquire the minimum rank possible in the JEE Main 2020 in order to acquire admission in the best engineering institutes under the examination. The counseling process is long and the JoSAA authorities release a new admission cut-off after the completion of every round of counseling in order to accommodate all the participating institutions with the required number of candidates. Therefore the more marks the candidate acquires than the minimum JEE Main cut off, the higher are their chances of acquiring admissions in the choice of their institution.
JEE Main Cut-off Analysis
The examination conducting body NTA is the authority which is responsible for the declaration of the JEE Main cut-off for the year 2020 examination to be held in the month of January. There are various categories of students who attempt the competitive exam of JEE Main like that of General, SC, ST, OBC and each of them have a subcategory of PWD candidates included within the categories whose results are declared separately along with their cut-off marks. Like General candidates and PWD candidates under general category have different cut-off and same goes with SC and PWD candidates under SC categories. The cut-off also depends on the score obtained by all the candidates who have appeared in the exam as well as the difficulty of the JEE Main 2020 exam.
This cut-off can be predetermined through various methods of calculations by the coaching institutes of JEE Mains keeping in mind the total students attending the exams, the syllabus, the type of questions that could be asked and the capabilities of the students studying in their institutes. The cut-off marks are also very important as they determine whether the candidate will be able to attend the JEE Advanced examinations or not which are to be held in the month of April 2020. A good JEE Main 2020 result would also help the candidate to choose a good engineering institute for themselves, other than the IIT’s or NIT’s even if they don’t qualify for the JEE Advanced examination.
The cut-off marks can be calculated by the following factors of the JEE Main 2020 examination:
- A lot of students register for the JEE main 2020 examination, but not all among them attend the actual examination. Therefore the total number of students who attended the JEE Main 2020 examination is one important factor.
- The level of difficulty of the examination is another important factor.
- The total number of questions asked in the examination is also another important factor.
- Lastly, the capability and the performance level of the candidates who attended the JEE Main examination also is a factor responsible for the JEE Main cut-off.
- The trend of JEE Main cut-off in the previous years.
- The number of candidates who have applied for different courses in engineering colleges.
JEE Main Expected Cut-off
The table given below is an expected cut-off for the JEE Main 2020 examinations:
Categories | Minimum Cut-off marks |
General | 80-85 |
OBC | 48-53 |
SC | 31-36 |
ST | 27-32 |
JEE Main 2020 Rank List
The candidates who will clear the JEE Main cut-off will be eligible for appearing in the JEE Advanced 2020 examinations which will be held in the month of April. The total candidates that are selected for the JEE Advanced will be 2,24,000 and they will compete among themselves for a place in the IIT’s and the NIT’s which are the topmost institutes to study engineering in India.
But the process is not so direct as after the JEE Advanced examinations the examination authority NTA will release AIT (All India Rank) as well as the category rank. This AIR is prepared by considering the best of the two scores of the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced examinations and henceforth prepare the AIR for all the students. This AIR will determine the institutes the candidates will qualify to acquire admission in their choice of institutes based on the counseling sessions that will follow.
